Description & Qualifications


The Cloud Systems Architect is responsible for the design of business and technical aspects of the UKG Ready suite related to public cloud development and deployment. Must be able to understand and communicate industry best practices for web-scale public cloud usage. This is a hands-on cloud deployment design role for someone to take ownership and lead by example. The architect must be well versed in public cloud technologies for both high level architecture and detailed designs. Must be able to directly interact with other UKG Ready Engineering and Product, UKG Cloud, and Information Security personnel to gather and document required information effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. The Cloud System Architect will be a critical enabler to an efficient and scalable architecture practice, spanning a global engineering team and cloud-based, multi-tenant SaaS application.

Specific areas of focus include:
• Articulate a vision for modern public cloud deployment practices and evolve our UKG Ready cloud architecture practices to keep in alignment with industry best practices – strategically leveraging public cloud native services where appropriate and designing for system resiliency, while ensuring operational and monitoring efficiencies and proper cost management
• Advance UKG Ready Engineering development environments and practices to better align with production public cloud deployments
• Work with others to educate UKG Ready platform and domain Engineering teams on our Cloud deployment architecture and its implications on their team, as a part of an organizational move towards SRE practices
• Educating other UKG Ready Architects on the concerns and best practices of designing for secure public Cloud Architecture deployment
• Serve as a subject matter expert, advisor, and liaison between UKG Engineering and Product, Cloud, and Information Security teams in getting new UKG Ready projects through the standards review process



• BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience and a minimum of 8 years in software engineering and/or architecture
• Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform or other major public cloud provider, and other Google (or other) offerings centered around web applications required
• Google Compute Engine (GCE), Cloud Storage (GCS), Pub/Sub, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Cloud Scheduler, Cloud Functions
• Demonstrated experience working in complex, distributed, large-scale development organization
• Demonstrated understanding of SRE best practices
• Working knowledge of typical CI/CD or DevOps pipelines and related tooling, such as Gradle, Jenkins, Maven, etc. is preferred.
• Understanding of industry standard security practices
• Responsible for gathering requirements, designing cloud deployment solutions, and overseeing the development and execution of projects
• Be able to build pilot solutions and proofs of concept with minimal direction
• Provide support to project manager through developing tasks, estimates, and dependencies to meet expectations
• Understanding of the Workforce Management, HCM or related subject areas a plus
