UKG is looking for a passionate Lead Development Engineer with a wide range of application development experience to join our team in our Branchburg, NJ, or Lowell, MA office.
The Lead Software Development Engineer needs to be able to think strategically and operate tactically to be able to deliver on the technical vision of the company.

The Lead Software Development Engineer will work with clients, product managers, analysts, architects and engineers to plan, design, develop, test and implement information technology solutions consistent with the business objective. The Lead Software Development Engineer will develop and review requirements, create design documents, write programs, package, test, configure and deploy software.
The Lead Software Development Engineer will also participate and collaborate with other stakeholder including security, quality assurance, training, project management, engineering, hosting, & procurement when required to assist in other aspects of their projects.

The Lead Software Development Engineer at UKG are expected to be results-oriented, have knowledge of new and legacy technologies, have knowledge of the relevant platforms and environments, and be familiar with business process, functions and data within their domain to provide innovative, insightful, and secure solutions. • Develop and enhance effective programs & data structures that successfully meet the objective
• Participate effectively in relevant aspects of software development life cycle (SDLC) including planning, construction, testing, reviews, and demonstrations
• Collaborate with team to design, develop, test and refine deliverables
• Investigate and resolve complex application issues as needed package, configure and deploy software
• Review and create system, software and functional design specifications that address requirements
• Collaborate with clients, Product Managers, Architects, & Analysts to develop and review requirements & design
• Participate in project planning and release management
• Acts as an expert source of technology and application knowledge within their domain. Research, recommend, and introduce new technologies and new uses of existing technologies Participating in Business planning, IT strategy and setting direction
• Commonly recommends new technologies, methodologies and practices to increase the department’s productivity and better the department’s applications
• Perform insightful and constructive code reviews to help maintain and teach proper coding techniques and ensure that your fellow developers are considering all pertinent factors in order to prevent regression defects or the introduction of problematic code
• Able to independently perform day to day activities with no instruction, using proper judgment to determine when to involve stakeholders with decisions regarding the overall function or direction of a given feature or application scenario
• Ability to mentor the junior developers on the team


• Expert knowledge of Java based web development: SQL, Java, J2EE, REST framework, JavaScript, XML
• Nice to have React, HTML, CSS, Spring, Version Control (Git, BitBucket)
• Strong SQL skills – including Stored Procedures, Functions, Triggers (SQL server preferred)
• Familiar with Agile development methodologies
• Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent experience
• 6+ years industry experience in Enterprise Application Development
• Programming concepts, design patterns, Software Architecture, Object-Oriented Programming (OOP), Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
• Experience developing software solutions for Time and Labor management applications preferred
• Working knowledge of integration of external hardware with Time and Labor management application preferred
• Previous experience with a SaaS or hosted solutions preferred
• Web/cloud-based distributed multi-tier application development using SOAP and RESTful web services preferred
• Performance monitoring tools viz. Kibana, New Relic preferred
