Are you a Technology Leader that is excited about building and leading a high performing Software Engineering team? We are looking for an Engineering Team Owner who is passionate about Business intelligence, data, Analytics, development of engineers, team building, programming, quality, process improvement and truly enjoys what they do for our Data product development organization. Must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products. And be excited by the prospect of optimizing or even re-designing our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

Ultimate Software works in an agile environment with daily standups via self-managed cross functional teams. The ability to communicate effectively with Software Engineers, Product Analysts, QAs, PMs, ERMs, CSMs, AMs as well as work closely with other key partners are key components for success in this position.

Primary/Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities: 

Drive innovation and manage product development teams within a fast paced, agile environment

Cultivate an environment of continuous engineering improvement through mentoring, feedback, and metrics

Recruit IT professionals with business and industry experience, and develop, reward and energize a competent, effective team within the technology organization. Identify and implement strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce.

Manage and/or lead software development teams, obtaining necessary resources, acting as an escalation point and removing impediments to achieve goals and objectives

Engage in hands-on design and ensure alignment of strategy, architecture, tools/methods with software engineers and architects to execute product roadmaps

Collaborate with a wide variety to stakeholders within business and technology teams to drive change required to execute product roadmaps

Enable integrated teams to deliver technology solutions in support of key product initiatives by working closely with product managers, technical project managers, architects, engineers, and quality assurance

Collaborate within and across business units to prioritize, plan, and execute the development schedule for major product releases

Facilitate productive and positive team communication and collaboration. This includes but is not limited to: Cultivating an environment of visibility and open discussion, resource planning and partnering with other leaders and direct reports.

Mentor and support the professional, technical and personal growth of team members. Help develop their career path by assigning projects tailored to their strengths and opportunities, personality, work style and goals while reassuring a healthy exploration beyond their “comfort zone”.

Own team processes to increase efficiency. Develop, measure and interpret statistics that serve as indicators of team performance. Use this information to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Deliver simple and elegant solutions in the team portfolio based on agreed upon timelines and commitments while building an environment conducive to high team morale and productivity.

Set the example and expectations for team conduct. Inspire positive behavior and interactions. When needed, directly address, and resolve, behavior that falls below expectations.

Expedite project timelines while maintaining sustainable work pace that does not compromise on standards and quality.

Partners with Sales organization and other functional teams to build innovative solutions

Work with data engineers and application engineers to ensure that data sets feeding the analytics platforms are tuned for optimal performance.

Work with business stakeholders to define and improve standardized and ad-hoc analytics/reporting capabilities.

Interface with technical and non-technical customers delivering complete BI solutions.

Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.

Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for secondary datasets

Required Qualifications: (If a Bona Fide Occupational Qualification, otherwise it is preferred) 

7+ years’ engaging and working with cross-functional enterprise level software development projects using Agile development methodologies and leading team of 8-10 developers
5+ years of relevant experience in business intelligence role, including data warehousing and business intelligence tools, as well as experience in diving deep on data analysis or technical issues with an overall experience of 10-15 years.

2+ Public Cloud Development Experience

5+ years of working experience of BI tools like Cognos/Looker/Tableau/MicroStrategy/BO/Qlik

7+ years of experience with detailed knowledge of BI data warehouse technical architectures, infrastructure components, ETL/ ELT and reporting/analytic tools.

5+ years of experience with SQL and NoSQL databases

Demonstrated understanding of BI methodology and technologies (strong technical backend experience with Cognos, Looker, Google Cloud Platform, Big Query, Snowflake or other related tools.

Exposure to Microsoft SQL Server Data Quality and Master Data Services is desired

Proven track record of working successfully in a complex, highly integrated environment

Working knowledge of leading-edge business intelligence best practices and concepts, e.g. predictive modelling, advanced analytics, etc.

Experience working in an offshore and onshore model

Extensive leadership and communication skills (verbal and written)

Experience operating in a cloud/on-premise hybrid IT landscape

Working experience with deploying apps using docker/containers/K8s

Working experience working with CI tools like Jenkins/Maven/Teamcity to build pipelines for deployment and infrastructure set up

Working knowledge of DevOps methodology and Site Reliability Engineering

Strong experience working with continuous integration and continuous delivery

Excellent verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Self-motivated, continuous improvement mindset and willing to “do what it takes” to get the job done

Experience with, or understanding of, Agile/Lean Software Development practices such as Kanban or Scrum

Ability to manage and balance multiple deliverables concurrently in an environment with shifting priorities

Ability to deliver on ambiguous projects and work with complex datasets

Impeccable attention to detail and ability to check your own work

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, another quantitative field or relevant work experience. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience working with Google Cloud Platform.

Experience with deployment/CI/CD tools like: Teamcity, Maven, Jenkins, etc

Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with numerous large- scale SQL and NoSQL databases

Experience managing iterative development to a multi-cloud environment (private, public)

Experience with the delivery of scalable services and all-things related to modern development and testing

Prior dev & testing experience is a big plus

CQRS design pattern

Akka or Kafka streams

Events-driven architecture
