Description

The role of the Manager, Payroll Services manages and coordinates activities and operations of the payroll tax department and staff for Google. The manager establishes strong client relationships and leads department initiatives by partnering within UKG. This includes the management of internal company processes and policies, monitoring internal controls, oversight of the tax functions and developing ongoing process improvement activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide leadership escalation in the resolution of tax notices and discrepancies referred by federal, state, and local agencies in a timely manner to mitigate potential penalties and interest

Monitor case volume and other related metrics, identify and implement proactive measures to prevent future concerns specific to payroll tax operations

Drive department education and knowledge enhancement related to system functionality. Ensure members are familiar with all applicable system enhancement and legislative changes to ensure compliance with all jurisdiction requirements

Lead meetings and initiatives with cross-functional departments to identify and implement process improvements and best practices

Manage the timely handling and resolution of customer issues including handling customer escalations, perform and document root cause analysis. and implement remedial procedures to close gaps identified.

Work closely with customer and internal resources to deliver excellent customer experience related to the entire tax process.

Plan, direct, and coordinate tax operations to include development and maintenance of calendar of key activities, setting of goals and performance expectations for the department, and monitoring progress while continually evaluating activities to implement business process improvements

Ensure processes exist to stay abreast of changes in applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Establish controls to ensure compliance with internal controls and governing federal and state laws. Assist team in researching complex tax issues as needed

Conducts periodic client (monthly, quarterly business reviews) and team meetings to ensure problems are addressed and to ensure client satisfaction.

Provide support on quarterly and annual tax balancing activities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree (B. A.) or equivalent, at least two years related experience at a management or team lead level, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge of multi-state and multi-jurisdiction payroll tax laws

Knowledge of Canadian payroll laws preferred

Commitment to excellence and high standards

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Basic competence in duties and tasks of supervised employees

Demonstrated ability to supervise and motivate subordinates

Possess extensive tax compliance knowledge.

Possess strong de-escalation skills.
