Description & Qualifications


This Principal Architect position brings in a challenging but exciting opportunity to be a part of a team who is in the forefront of driving the architecture modernization of a SaaS based product suite. You will be a part of designing a next generation microservices platform and driving the implementation of cloud best practices. You will serve as a member of the Engineering organization and the Software Architecture community, with oversight on projects and a focus on design, integration and technical strategies that will help establish the technical vision for the future scale of our UKG Platform Services.

Job Responsibilities
• Collaborate with Engineering Leadership in defining and understanding the business requirements tied to imperative business strategic goals.
• Collaborate with and mentor development teams and technical leads in designing and delivering functional, scalable, resilient, adaptable, performant, and cloud-native services.
• Partner with service architects and collaborate on architectural decisions and technical strategies and effectively communicate the strategies that need to be adopted.
• Partner with Product and Engineering teams when making roadmap, design, architectural, and engineering impacting decisions.
• Understand business needs, company's products & services and match them with best-in-class technology to define the target state.
• Clearly articulate technical architecture (current and future state diagrams, solution best practices, reference architectures, design patterns).
• Conduct architecture workshops and other enablement sessions and lead key discussions to define target state architecture.
• Lead the development of proofs-of-concept solutions in collaboration with development teams.
• Build and maintain partnerships and collaborative work with the external community, occasionally speak in conferences, and participate in submission of patents as needed


• 5+ years of Software Architecture experience with strong application development background.
• 2+ years of experience designing and delivering large scale distributed systems
• 2+ years of technical leadership experience
• 2+ years of experience mentoring, managing/leading technical leads
• Expertise in solution design across the full technology stack with strong background on java and Spring framework. Knowledge of Kotlin will be an added benefit.
• Broad understanding of security, reliability, scalability, high availability, and concurrency architectural patterns and solutions
• Expertise in one or more categories that include distributed application architecture, data & information, integration, security and cloud computing.
• Expertise in patterns and solutions that enable evolutionary architectures, leveraging flexibility and creativity when balancing the present technologies with emerging ones when formulating new strategies
• Prior experience with at least one major cloud provider and in architecting cloud native services (GCP, AWS, Azure)
• Prior experience with relational and non-relational database technologies (either MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Cassandra)
• Prior experience with one of the messaging and event streaming solutions (Kafka, Pub Sub, RabbitMQ, Kafka Streams, Spark)
• Prior experience in developing microservices and applying 12 factor principles.
• Prior experience with agile development, Continuous Delivery, and DevOps practices
• Excellent understanding of infrastructure and related technologies (compute, storage, networking)
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills driving difficult conversations necessary to execute business strategies.
• Proven consultative approaches to engage with application teams and guide in their transformation roadmap.
