Principal Architect, Kronos Incorporated, a UKG company, Lowell, Massachusetts

Hands-on, technical leadership role combining technical expertise with complex, enterprise applications running in a cloud multi-tenant environment. Will be part of an architecture team responsible for overall systemwide resiliency, scalability, data strategy, and operational efficiency. Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

• Designing complex, highly-available global computing environments that enable Kronos SaaS enterprise solutions and operations.
• Participating in the development, advocacy and adoption of deployment best practices, leveraging tools and processes to enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Maintaining and advancing deep technical skills and knowledge of Cloud architectures, technologies and service-oriented models, including Cloud operations management, DevOps, applications, compute services, virtualization, and extended networking domains in order to keep up-to-date with market trends and competitive insights, and sharing knowledge within the technical community.
• Managing and maintaining Kronos’ Cloud infrastructure (patching, upgrading, and release strategy in the Cloud).
• Creating Cloud infrastructure solutions that satisfy customer requirements, cost-efficiency objectives, and security standards.
• Providing technical guidance and direction on Cloud architecture standards and technologies for enabling systems performance qualities for service reliability, availability, scalability, security and supportability.
• Collaborating with the Product Architecture, Product Management, and Program Management Teams to establish best practices and drive delivery of our end-to-end enterprise software solution.
• Creating and maintaining a roadmap for the Cloud services platform and staying ahead of technology advancements supporting the SaaS enterprise solution.
• Actively participating in security governance and driving process improvements.
• Supporting requests from Kronos leadership and product management to provide estimates and strategies for Cloud expansion and integration of additional offerings based on business roadmaps.
• Assessing, designing, and developing Cloud solutions that support business goals, working across Kronos business and technical teams as appropriate.
• Preparing internal and customer facing artifacts to help communicate, in business language, information about Kronos Cloud solutions and security.
• Advocating and educating on Cloud platform solutions with internal customers across sales and professional services organizations.


Position requires a Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in an Engineering discipline and 8 years of experience as a Software Engineer working with cloud-based technologies. Must also have 5 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with the primary experience requirement above) with the following:

• Working with Spring Framework and one of Java, Scala or Groovy.
• Architecting cloud native services in either GCP, AWS or Azure.
• Working with relational (Postgres, Oracle or MySQL) and non-relational (MongoDB or Cassandra) database technologies.
• Working with an enterprise-level messaging and event streaming solutions (Kafka, Pub Sub, RabbitMQ, or Spark).
• Working on Application Containerization and Orchestration platforms Docker and Kubernetes.
• Developing Microservices applying 12 factor principles.
• Working with CI/CD or DevOps pipelines and related tooling, including Gradle, Jenkins and Maven.
