UKG is seeking a Principal Data Architect to lead Solution Architecture and drive the expansion of our next-generation enterprise data and analytics product and solution.
This position demands strong leadership with the ability to collaborate across the organization. You will be working with current and emerging technologies within hybrid cloud environments while guiding teams to delivery. The opportunity requires you to be able to contribute at a senior level, to Architect, design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug complex platform, software and data issues across the enterprise. You will be working directly with our Data team to implement the next generation of data visualization and insights. As an architect you will collaborate with product, engineering, and operations teams while presenting to senior leadership, so effective communication skills are a necessity.

• Define and implement all aspects of our data product including artifact creation such as architecture and design diagrams, playbooks and other technical documents.
• Own and influence our People Analytics Enterprise Data Model.
• Establish practices of assessing the architecture risks and enable the team to maintain the clear picture of architecture risks and concerns, as well as their mitigation plans.
• Lead team to define architectural vision, design, guidance, and operational plans towards the effective delivery of products and services that meet or exceed key objectives for the business. Ensure consistency of the architectural artifacts.
• Build consensus around solutions within and outside of the Data team where possible and giving direction when needed.
• Drive teams to implement a modern data and analytics platform consistent with the UKG technology strategy.
• Partner with various business stakeholders and technology leaders to translate program requirements into scalable technical solutions and system designs
• Collaborate with other members of the Product Architecture Leadership team and development management, to evaluate solutions and gain consensus on technical solutions
• Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies, platforms and third party products
• Work with technology teams to prototype and prove the viability of solutions
• Facilitate planning for production implementation of solutions
• Ensure alignment of solutions with UKG's Product Architecture principles and guidelines
• Research and understand new technology trends and products
• Socialize information on technology trends and products
• Provide leadership and expertise in the development of standards, architectural governance, design patterns, and practices
• Troubleshoot and solve development and operational bottlenecks

Qualifications

• As a foundation you must have extensive knowledge with operationalizing end to end data platforms from Architecture to production, building out multiple environments in multiple regions for a Software as a Service solution.
• 10+ years of experience leading development of modern data architecture platforms and writing various dialects of SQL
• 7+ years of hands-on experience with streaming platforms, tools, and frameworks and working with multiple database solutions including MPP, Columnar, Cache, in-memory, RDBMS, and NoSQL platforms.
• 5+ years designing Logical and physical Data Models for DW/BI applications
• 5+ years hands-on software development experience writing proficient code in Java, Scala, or Python including understanding development workflows, CI/CD, Testing & Automation
• 5+ years of experience implementing enterprise-class BI presentation layer platforms.
• 3+ years building data centric solutions in a Public Cloud environment with a strong understanding of ephemeral platforms.
• 1+ years building microservices and strong understanding of microservice architecture, challenges and advantages.
• 1+ years of building modern data pipeline with experience coding for various design patterns including batch, streaming, and CDC.
• Skilled at designing and implementing data backup and recovery in cross datacenter scenarios to support business continuity.
• Experience standing up a data lake/warehouse in a hybrid cloud environment
• Additionally, you must have the ability to create written specifications for optimal CPU, memory, storage and network usage and demonstrate the ability to size, scale, and deploy data management solutions.
• Experience leading teams in designing optimal data security.
• Experience with Master Data Management, Data Governance, Data Lineage via tools like Alation, Collibra, or open source equivalents
• Experience with Data Virtualization tools similar to Denodo
• Experience managing BI/DW environments in roles such as System/Application Administrator or DBA
• Experience working in an Agile env like Kanban/Scrum
