The Principal on the New Market Growth & Expansion Team will be a critical part of the organization tackling UKG’s most important long-term strategic questions, specifically responsible for translating market, product, and business research into actionable insights that drive our product strategy. This function reports to the Director of New Market Growth & Expansion and exists to evaluate new, innovative technology and business opportunities in new verticals and evaluate new business opportunities from existing assets. He/she will aid our leadership team in key strategic decision-making, working alongside Product leaders to identify, scope and size transformative commercial ideas and opportunities. He/she assists our leadership team in formulating a point of view as to where resources should be deployed to maximize long-term strategic value leveraging different innovation tactics. He/she will contribute to the evaluation and prioritization of growth initiatives and influence the product development roadmap while launching new programs that engage with the startup and innovation ecosystem.

This role is also responsible for analyzing market data and interpreting UKG asset and portfolio data to inform the development of market and portfolio expansion strategies. He/she is also expected to build accountability for distribution and ingestion of these insights in our products, working cross-functionally. This individual is expected to tackle hard, ambiguous questions with rigor and independence, owning projects from problem definition to final recommendation and execution.

Overall, the Principal Strategist on the New Market Growth & Expansion Team will assist our Product leadership in driving long-term strategic direction, evaluating net new opportunity areas, and analyzing existential threats. This role will interface with Product Management, Marketing, Alliances, Finance, Services, Engineering, and Sales to accelerate growth across our company and develop informed positions on big questions that drive the value and long-term competitive advantage of our business.

Primary/Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:
● Define the opportunity and risk of UKG’s current and future product, customer, and geographic footprint, helping spot trends and gaps with impact on UKG’s overall strategy.
● Evaluate white space business, product, and partnership opportunities in adjacent markets, crisply framing a problem space, potential paths, and tradeoffs.
● Conduct deep dive analysis into portfolio expansion opportunities analyzing data, extracting insights, and developing a strategic roadmap for market and portfolio expansion.
● Perform detailed and comprehensive market analyses including industry TAMs, competitive landscapes, valuation, and business case modeling that size. opportunities and their ease of their execution internally for presentation to senior leadership.
● Establish a robust understanding of new markets, industry trends, competitive positioning, and emerging companies.
● Analyze UKG sales data and product usage data to develop key business insights to build strategies to drive growth (e.g., Who’s buying what? Who’s using what? Where do we have opportunities to create more customer value?)
● Identify, incorporate, and analyze external secondary research to supplement our internal data (e.g., government research, analyst reports, public company financials).
● Measure product performance, set goals for improvement, and work with the responsible teams to systematically report, monitor, analyze, and improve performance in the market.
● Build thought leadership on the future state of the industry and potential impact to UKG’s overall strategy.
● Communicate insights and vetted opportunities with clear, concise, and persuasive artifacts.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

● BS or BA in Management, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Business, Computer Science, or other rigorous discipline. MBA with a focus in strategy, analytics, or technology preferred.
● 4 – 8+ years of experience in consulting, corporate development, venture capital, private equity, or analytical product development experience.
● Proven work experience with distilling big data sets into actionable insights that drive business value.
● Excellent Excel skills – ability to clean, blend, and prep large quantities of data.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Excel at hypothesis-driven problem solving and bringing structure to quantitative and qualitative insights.
● Experience building customer research, including conjoint surveys.
● Experience in creating and delivering business analyses, translating detailed research into recommendations, statements of value, and ROIs.
● Strong analytical and financial skills to work on complex business issues.
● Strong collaboration skills; ability to influence without authority.
● Self-starter understands the big picture, willing to do the work to execute the big picture.
● Passion for technology and an understanding of software and business technology markets, trends, and dynamics.
● SaaS, consumer or B2B internet, or enterprise software experience.
● Exceptional financial modeling with strong business intuition.
● Demonstrated ability to work in a high-growth software company providing data insights and analyses.
● Passion and empathy for the customers and market we serve.
