Description & Qualifications


UKG is developing a data science platform for enterprise scale SaaS based solutions to deliver business value leveraging data from a wide variety of sources. The primary objective of this role is to design and maintain a Data Science platform leveraging Spark computation and public cloud Kubernetes deployment model to provide a runtime for data science driven applications that will integrate with an existing enterprise SaaS product offering in the workforce management space.

This is a hands-on, leadership role combining technical expertise with strategic vision and mentoring in data science driven software development and delivery. A successful candidate should have a core background in data science algorithms, data pipelining, Spark, Kubernetes, Application design, and providing business value through software to a wide variety of customers.

In support of our culture, we are adopting a hybrid working model that mixes the flexibility of working 2 days at a UKG office, the balance of the week from home. The offices to choose from are in Lowell MA, Atlanta/Alpharetta GA, Branchburg NJ, Cleburne TX or Weston FL. Also at our Toronto or Montreal sites.

Job Responsibilities:
• Provide business value to a wide variety of organizations using data science at enterprise scale
• Articulate, define, and execute on a data science based strategic vision for the organization.
• Hands-on GKE cluster management with respect to node pools, pod scaling, ingress controllers, public cloud service integrations and other Kubernetes related deployment concerns
• Architect Spark based real-time and batch computational flows
• Work closely with Data Science team on proof-of-concepts, feasibility/practicality, and potential application integration for future data science-based applications
• Plan, architect, and guide delivery of critical, complex applications developed leveraging a data science platform in the public cloud.
• Work closely with Product Management teams with respect to feature prioritization, delivery, high level estimates of effort and high and mid-level designs while not losing sight of technical debt
• Ensure production readiness from multiple aspects including supportability, resilience, reliability, security and several other perspectives of all newly developed data science-based applications
• Develop and enforce standards for relational and non-relational database design and development best practices, and design tools to enforce these practices at scale.
• Continuously evaluate current trends in the data science technology space and provide recommendations on best practices and new / differentiating capabilities, including active vendor engagement and product roadmap review and feedback.


• Strong background in leveraging data science algorithms or methods to derive business value
• Expertise in distributed computing with Spark, from a development and delivery perspective, specifically on Kubernetes
• Expert knowledge of data pipeline architecture and implementation planning and execution, database technologies, and demonstrated delivery of enterprise-scale applications
• Strong background in delivering data science-based applications
• Demonstrated experience of architecting distributed computing-based solutions in cloud platforms such as Google GCP, AWS, Azure.
• Working knowledge of at least one major non-relational database, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Couchbase, DynamoDB, etc.
• Working knowledge of one or more cloud data warehouse (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift)
• Working knowledge of middleware / application access methods to database including connection pools, JDBC, etc.
• Working knowledge of software development lifecycle stages required to support JavaScript, Java, SQL, and other enterprise languages.
