Sr. Principal Data Scientist – Technical Lead, Chat AI

A brand new addition to our portfolio, UKG is launching a new communication platform with one simple goal: connect every employee, from HQ to the frontline, over a single platform to communicate, collaborate, coordinate, and share. As a Sr. Principal Data Scientist and Technical Lead for Chat AI, you will get in on the ground floor, lead our new data science practice for this platform, and help drive innovation and redefine how employees communicate.

Responsibilities
• Lead our our new efforts in building AI into our communication platform, and help define the overall data science strategy for future investments in AI-based features for the communication platform.
• Support the search experience and build enhancements so that users can easily find the people and content they are looking for.
• Drive engagement through personalization and relevant content recommendations.
• Improve overall user experience by building AI based refinements to the UX e.g. smart response recommendations.
• Apply your NLP expertise to propose and develop models and solutions to build AI-based innovations to our communication platform as well as the rest of our product portfolio.
• Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers during all phases of development, from conceptualization all the way to productization and maintenance to deliver innovative features into our communication platform.

Qualifications

• Education and experience in a quantitative field. PhD and 6 years of experience / master’s degree and 8 years of experience, plus substantial experience in a relevant domain, e.g. natural language processing/natural language understanding, or information retrieval.
• An ideal candidate will have several years of experience working on a team supporting some of the widely used messaging platforms.
• An ideal candidate will have experience leading data science in an organization, or in a functional area within an organization, and experience successfully delivering on a research roadmap that had a transformative impact on the product.
• Strong skills with Python and experience with NLTK, spaCy, and other NLP libraries. And experience with distributed frameworks, such as Spark, as well as platforms like Solr, Lucene, or Elasticsearch for large scale analysis of text data.
• Experience with state of the art architectures and techniques in natural language processing, such as BERT, XLNet, and GPT-3, and experience leveraging those techniques using deep learning frameworks, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
