UKG is looking for a Senior Principal Data Engineer who can help drive the data strategy for our UKG Ready development team.
The individual will be responsible for optimizing our existing data platform, building common data services and helping to build our next generation analytics pipelines. The ideal candidate has significant experience designing and building data pipelines, along with experience in data, business intelligence and analytics. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products along with mentoring and leading junior team members as needed.
As a Senior Principal Data Engineer at UKG, you’ll be embedded on a development team where you can work on the next generation of internet software. You’ll get to work directly with other Developers, Software Testers, Business Analysts, Product Managers, and Engineering Managers, all of whom make up the team. In this highly collaborative environment, you will have the opportunity to shape our data management and analytics strategy.
The Senior Principal Data Engineer position requires excellent Object-Oriented programming and Design Pattern skills with deep expertise building data pipelines. The job requires you to be able to design, develop, troubleshoot and debug enterprise data management solutions. The qualified candidate for this role is someone who has a can-do attitude and is an innovative thinker.
From technology perspectives, you will have opportunities to be exposed to the modern agile cloud-based data technologies. The team will be empowered to select the right technology, if necessary, based on customer needs and you will have the full set of data services in your toolbox.
• Architect, design, implement and support a platform providing secured access to large datasets
• Lead the integration of Google Cloud best practices into our data engineering processes, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance
• Collaborate closely with the analytics team to design, build, and maintain data pipelines for advanced data analysis and reporting
• Harness the power of existing application data to provide actionable insights and identify opportunities for Machine Learning and GenAI driven use cases
• Develop and maintain robust ETL processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and availability
• Architect, implement, and maintain data warehouses and data lakes in Google Cloud, optimizing for efficiency and cost-effectiveness
• Explore and implement advanced data modeling and transformation techniques to support AI and machine learning initiatives, including anomaly detection algorithms
• Lead management and maintenance of common functional data services within the application
• Implement efficient production monitoring and scaling mechanisms to enable the continued rapid adoption of the Ready product across a global customer base
• Identify, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize data pipelines for performance and reliability
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering and machine learning to drive innovation within the team
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth
• Work with key personnel to assist with data-related technical issues and product support
This role would be a hybrid model requiring 3 days in the office/week and we are looking for candidates local to the office.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
• Proven experience in data engineering, ETL development, and data pipeline architecture
• Strong experience implementing and scaling SQL Server database applications
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL
• Strong expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, and Cloud Storage
• Experience working with big data technologies and distributed computing frameworks like Hadoop and Spark
• Cross-functional enterprise level software development projects using Agile development methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:
• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Knowledge of best practices for data security, compliance, and governance
• Familiarity with data warehousing and data modeling concepts
• A self-driven, innovative mindset with a passion for exploring AI and machine learning applications
This is a hybrid role and would require 3 days/week in the office
